Author Guidelines

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Please prepare a bio-data statement for you and any co-authors,  written in the third person, starting with the individual's name. You will be asked to upload this along with your manuscript, as separate files.

  1. All information on the submission page is completely filled out, including affiliation and bio statement. The bio statement should be in prose form and indicate research interests, employment history, or other pertinent facts about the author(s). Incomplete submissions are automatically rejected.
  2. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  3. An abstract of no more than 200 words should be included at the top of the manuscript. The abstract should appear both in the submission meta-data as well as under the title in the submission proper.
  4. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF  document file format. PDF files are not acceptable.
  5. Where available, DOIs or URLs for the references have been provided.
  6. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  7. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the current APA style manual. See also the TESL-EJ Style Sheet for Authors.
  8. The paper has been written in a style appropriate for the teacher generalist, which is different from the style used in theses. Use of statistics should be reduced to the bare essentials. The full set of statistics can be made available elsewhere for the interested reader.
  9. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  10. The work is the original work of the author. All work of others  is properly cited.
  11.  Please submit only one proposal at a time for consideration. Submitting more than one proposal will result in all  proposals being rejected. You may then resubmit the one  proposal you wish to be considered.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All authors must agree to the following statements.

  • I have reviewed the submission criteria at https://tesl-ej.org/wordpress/sub_howto/submission-info/ and assure the editors that all of the criteria there (mentioned below) have been met. [If you are not sure, stop and review the criterial once again.]
  • The content is written in a non-technical manner for the general teacher/practitioner or researcher.
  • I understand that my submission will be rejected if the TESL-EJ guidelines have not been followed. (Reasonable departures from the guidelines that do not affect the readability may be adjusted later.)

Please DO NOT tick any boxes the statements carefully.  Failure to do so may cause your submission to be rejected.
